MUNA'S COOL TOUR IN AMSTERDAM

Street art in Spuistraat

Amsterdam - another destination of Muna's Cool Tours – a city of the Avant-garde, culturally vibrant and stylish, full of charm, of nostalgic emotions and beautiful architecture on a human scale, incredibly romantic and waiting to be discovered. One of my favorite cities ... For me, it is best to go there in the spring, in late March, when the crocuses bloom repeatedly throughout the city, or in April, the cultural-friendly month, when admission is free or reduced to many state museums. But it is best is to go there in conjunction with the Koninginnedag: on April 30 Amsterdam turns into a huge flea market on the occasion of the celebrations for Queen Beatrix’s birthday. On that day transportations are banned and thousands of people crowd the streets to celebrate from day to night. Like every year, also this summer there are many trends and beach fashion revivals. Sunglasses and sandals, bathing suits and bags are all details and not just the temperatures that make the summer!
If you happen to be in Amsterdam for a short stay or a weekend, I would recommend staying in the area of Oude Zijde (Old Part); in the center there is the beautiful Oude Kerk, the oldest church in the city, the University District, and the Damstraat lively Red Light District, but also, at one time, feared Waag, the oldest port of Amsterdam, where public executions were held. If you prefer, you can stay in the circle area of central channels, among luxurious and elegant homes on a neighborhood called the Herengracht, the “Gold Elbow”, in the area around Leidseplein, populated by nightlife lovers.

Among the varius place where you can spend the night, I would recommend those where I usually go when I'm there (a suggestion to sleep "from riches to rags") when I can, I stay at the Dylan Hotel Keizersgracht, a delightful boutique hotel - for me the best Amsterdam hotel - located in the heart of the city, in one of the most chic and elegant quarters. When, however, I want to to enjoy Amsterdamin a more smoke-friendly dimension, I go to the Greenhouse Effect Hotel, in De Wallen, which has also a coffee shop. It is one of the few hotels where smoking in the rooms is permitted. The Arabic room is odd, but also full of atmosphere ...

In a city like Amsterdam there's so much to see, so much beauty and harmony that can fill your eyes and heart, so much fragrance to allure you ... maybe while walking in the flower market on the Singel Canal, the last floating flower market in the city or in the Hortus Botanicus along the flowery paths and the butterfly green house of the Plantage Middenlan.

There are also many fun things to do in Amsterdam! I think it is a place out of the world, a really lovely paradise, no traffic (note: statistics on car accidents report that the Netherlands is the safest country in Europe for pedestrians!). One of the few cities where I would like to live (aside from my own), a place where you can spend pleasant hours just strolling along the canals, wondering around the local coffee shops or the flower markets, discovering the red light district and, why not, doing something crazy (for example, a new piercing - as I did - or a tattoo or an instructive visit to the Hemp and Marjuhana Museum ...).

You can also enjoy coffee in the sun on the sides of the canal at the De Jaren, or if you do not suffer from vertigos, enjoy the view of the attic Flemish Metz and Co. ; you can do some intensive shopping in the very central Dam Square, with a visit to Bijenkorf, the Dutch Saks Fifth Avenue - a shopper's paradise which consists of six floors containing everything that a shopaholic like me would want - or you can choose to get lost in the frenzied succession of shops Leidsestraat or most luxurious boutiques and fashionable on Pieter Cornelisz Hooftstraat.

Finally, a drink at the trendy lounge Supper Club, on Roelensteeg ... with a visit to its surrealist rest rooms, where there is also a giant porthole that allows you to see through….
